At PopsPortal we do our utmost to accurately assess the condition of our Funko Pops so that you know what to expect when you buy a Pop from us. We focus exclusively on the box and not the Pop itself.
Due to the large number of Pops we put on the site each week, we cannot list a condition 8, 9 or 10 separately for each Pop. We simply say “condition 8/10 or better” for Pops that we think 98% of collectors will be happy with. For “8 or better” we do not list this separately for the figure. For a lower box condition we clearly state it in the title and/or description of the product.
Judgement
We rate pops above 8 and pops below 8. There are two different grading methods.
Above 8/10
If a Pop scores above 8/10, we do not mention specific details. The imperfections are so small that they are almost invisible to the naked eye. We do this for our peace of mind, given the large number of Pops we work with. Instead, we work with a minimum Box Condition in such a case. When the minimum box condition of a Pop is 8/10, we mention this in the product description. This means that the Pop will be at least a score of 8/10, but it could just as well be a perfect 10/10.
Under 8/10
If a Pop falls below 8/10, we will clearly state this, for example as [6.5/10] or [7/10] at the end of the title.
Example: “Funko Pop! Marvel: Spider-man #123 [Boxcondition 7/10]”.
Flaws and Visual Evaluation: We have visual aids that show examples of what we consider minor, moderate, and severe defects.
Condition rating:
10: We don't call any Pop a perfect 10, this always falls under our minimum box condition 8/10
9: A doll that is almost perfect, this always falls under our minimum box condition 8/10
8: The box is very presentable and shows little to no wear. This always falls under our minimum box condition 8/10
7: The damage to a 7 is much more noticeable, but the Pop remains presentable. The box may show 1 to 3 moderate defects.
6: The box may have 3 or more moderate and/or 1 serious defects. At 6, the defects on the box become more visible and affect the visual presentation.
5: This is where the condition begins to deteriorate. A 5 has 2 or more serious defects, but still remains somewhat presentable.
Rare Ratings: It is rare that we rate a Doll lower than a 5. If we consider the box to be a 4 or lower, the doll is often sold under [BOXDAMAGE].
Judgment and Consistency: There is always an element of judgment involved in the condition of Pops. The condition we assign to a particular Pop is our opinion, nothing more, nothing less. This is not an exact science, but we do our best to be consistent in our evaluation of condition. Please see below for our explanation video and photo examples of how we rate Funko Pop Conditions.
